34th Street is an east-west major collector roadway that connects Harlem Avenue (a principal arterial roadway) and Ridgeland Avenue (a major collector roadway). This route is heavily traveled each day by 4,050 vehicles. Interconnectivity with mass transit is distributed amongst the six PACE routes, located on Harlem Avenue, Oak Park Avenue and Ridgeland Avenue. 34th Street is currently a designated bicycle route as well as a designated school travel route. The City's Depot District is also one block north of 34th Street and houses numerous residences, businesses, MacNeal hospital and three Metra/BNSF train stations.

FundingThe project is being funded through a variety of avenues. The Surface Transportation Program, Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act Fund, Congressional Grant Request through Congressman Garcia, grant from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and local matching funds have all contributed to various phases of this project.
